Spring skiing

"The Daisetsuzan Sounkyo Mt. Kurodake Cable Car in Daisetsuzan National Park attracts many skiers and snowboarders because of the mountain’s long ski season, running from November to early May.
The cable car runs from the foot of the mountain to the fifth station of Mount Kurodake (elevation: 1,984 m), a towering mountain on the northeast side of Daisetsuzan. A chairlift operates from the end of the ropeway to the seventh station. The chairlift is used by both tourists and hikers to enjoy the summer. In winter, its height changes and people can enjoy the slopes under the lift as ski terrain. Expansive views of Daisetsuzan can be seen from the chairlift’s top station―if it is a clear day you can take in these breathtaking views as you carve your way down the slope. Mount Kurodake has an elevation of 2,000 m, but its location makes it comparable to mountains in Honshu with an elevation of 3,000 m. As a result, it is known for its long season and consistent snowfall throughout the season. In addition, the seasonal winds that bring snow from the Sea of Japan create snow clouds that hit the Teshio Mountains, producing snow with large crystals. This superior powder snow and spectacular views are the main reasons why alpine skiers and snowboarders keep coming back for more."
